I've spent 25 years in technology — starting in hardware support, moving into server management and networking, and for the last 14 years, running my own freelance practice building websites, managing hosting and domains, and helping small businesses get found online.
A few years ago I made a deliberate call: instead of being a generalist “I'll build you anything” freelancer, I went all-in on search — SEO first, and now GEO and AEO as AI search has taken off. This isn't a pivot I made because it's trendy. It's the direction search itself is moving, and I wanted to be ahead of it, not catching up.
I work exclusively with Australian local service businesses — trades, home services, and similar — mostly through referrals. I keep my client list small on purpose, because the work only holds up when I actually understand each business, not just its keywords.
